HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Instructor Training
The American Red Cross of Alaska is aggressively pursuing its HIV/AIDS education agenda, with a menu of Starter Facts classes in both English and Spanish and instructor training classes for basic, African-American and Hispanic audiences. In the starter facts classes participants will learn about making smart decisions and developing healthy behaviors to prevent HIV and AIDS and will gain a sense of compassion for persons living with HIV or AIDS. This training is in-depth and is a card-certified pre-requisite to becoming a HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Instructor. Due to its in-depth nature, the course is also recommended for people living with or related to a person living with the virus, even if they do not have intentions of pursuing instructor certification.
After completing the 4-hour starter facts training, potential instructors will participate in the 28-hour course certifying them as an instructor in one of three culturally-specific curriculums. Once trained by Red Cross, instructors can offer presentations on HIV/AID prevention and compassion to the community at-large. Many AIDS prevention programs rely on the Red Cross for their own instructors’ training.
